Metro do Porto is going to buy 18 new vehicles

56,1M€ INVESTMENT IS SIMULTANEOUS WITH THE NEW LINES
 

Metro do Porto opened an international public tender to buy 18 new vehicles.
56,1 million euros is the amount that serves as reference to buy the vehicles and it’s maintenance for a five year period.
The proposals must be delivered until the 29th April of 2019.
With this investment Metro do Porto fleet will be having 120 vehicles.
The new vehicles must be ready to operate in all Metro do Porto lines, obeying all operational and security norms.
All competitors have 4 months to deliver the proposals.
After the winner is elected and after the contract is signed, the vehicles will be delivered two years after, one every month.
The fleet reinforcement occurs simultaneously with the construction of a new line and the extension of the yellow line to Vila D'Este, which should begin by the end of the next year.
These new constructions wil add 5,6km and seven more stations the network in a total investment of 300 million euros.
Metro do Porto CEO, Jorge Delgado considers this public bid very important to guarantee Metro do Porto performance. With this new extension we are expecting 10 million clients more after 2023. The new vehicles will allow Metro do Porto respond to this.
Metro do Porto has 102 vehicles running in 6 lines, 67 kilometres and 82 stations. Nowadays is used by more than 60 million clients every year.
